Spring Cleaning Checklist: Don't Forget Your Garage Door

Spring is finally here, and with it comes the deep clean that the season is well-known for. It is time to open the windows and let the fresh air in while cleaning some of those hard-to-reach areas you paid selective attention to all winter. While most people know they have to get the cobwebs out of the corners, some people neglect a few places when spring cleaning, and one room they may forget about altogether. To get a better clean this spring, check off some of these above-and-beyond cleaning ideas.

Bedrooms

We spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, but much of that time is spent sleeping, so you probably don't think of it as a problem area. The best place to start when spring cleaning your bedroom is to move the bed. Dirt and dust roll under there, and unless you have a robot vacuum that is willing to go deep under your bed, that dirt has probably been hanging out there for months. Dusting is another chore that is done regularly but not everywhere. Take the time to dust the ceiling fan, between the blinds, the window sill, and behind the TV.

Kitchen

The kitchen is probably the cleanest area of the house, but there are still spots that many people miss. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to pull everything out of the fridge and toss any products past their expiration date. Clean off all the shelves and inside the drawers before putting the good food back in the fridge. You will also be surprised to find out how much dirt can get under the fridge and stove, so it's a good idea to pull those out and sweep and mop behind them.

Living Room

The biggest culprits in the living room are the furniture and all the small edges you don't think about daily. Since spring is here, it is a great time to pull the cushions off the couch and send them through the washing machine or carpet clean the couch if that is not an option. It is also a fantastic idea to dust the baseboards of the room where dust can rest on the small ledges, and just like in your room, make sure to get all that dust hiding behind your TV.

HVAC System

Sometimes what's out of sight can be out of mind, so people forget that their HVAC system is an essential element in their house that needs some attention too. With your spring cleaning, you'll be kicking up a lot of dust, and it has to go somewhere, which is probably inside your vents. Spring is the perfect time for a professional to clean the dust out of your vents so you breathe cleaner air all year.

Garage

One spot that people universally miss when they are spring cleaning is the garage. People clean outside of the house, in the yard, and inside the house, but they miss that important barrier between the two. Even when they do clean the garage, it is usually a sweep and a power wash and maybe some reorganization, but there is a significant need staring them right in the face.

Over the winter, a lot can happen to your garage door, from rotting panels to broken rollers, and springtime is the perfect time to get those little problems fixed before they become big problems. It's also the perfect time to replace a garage door because the weather is beautiful, and you don't have to worry about the air exchange between your home and outside. A new garage door will also be better insulated, so it will help keep your garage and home cooler during the coming summer and save on energy bills.

Don't Wait

Spring seems to come and go as fast as a storm, so there isn't much time to put off these essential cleaning chores. While nobody likes to do them, you'll be happy when they are done, and your home will be cleaner, healthier, and function better.
